Picture Day was today. If your child did not turn in a packet with payment, the photographer
will still accept orders with payment tomorrow and Friday. We have more order forms in the office. Students who did not wear school uniforms today will need to have their pictures taken again with white polo shirts on picture retake day, October 30. Students who were absent today will need to get their picture taken then as well.
Today’s
volleyball scrimmage against Inspire Academy will begin around 3:30PM. Players should stay after school to get dressed and ready to play.
Tomorrow (Thursday) morning, all SLCS students will have a free vison screening at school. Screening will be conducted by Bill Hoyt, a former Saint Lawrence student. If any student struggles with the screening, parents/guardians will be notified in writing.
On Saturday, September 7, our P.T.O. will meet to organize Fall Festival materials and plot out the layout of this year’s festival. Meet at the corner of Washington & Monroe Streets, adjacent to Cornerstone Center for the Arts, at 8:30AM to lend a hand.
Final Fall Festival organizational meeting is Monday, September 9, 6:30-7:30PM, at school.
Tuesday, September 10, is
Red, White and Blue Day. At morning gathering, I’ll tell students a brief history of the U.S. flag and encourage them to share the reasons that they are proud to live in America. Students are not required to wear school uniforms-they are encouraged to wear predominantly red, white and blue. Students can wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, dresses, jeans, shorts, skirts, etc. Black shoes and white socks are not required. Casual Day dress code still applies. No hoodies, tank tops, sandals, flip-flops, boots, hats, or makeup. Skirts/shorts must extend to the top of the knee when standing. Students who don't wish to participate may wear their normal school uniforms.
Midterm grade reports will be sent home on Wednesday, September 11.
Volleyball will play a 4:30PM scrimmage at Holy Cross in Anderson on Thursday, September 12.
We’ll need parent drivers. We’ll leave SLCS together at 3:15PM.
We’re collecting donated items for
Fall Festival. We ask each family to bring the following to school, starting right away:
-a case of bottled water
-a 24-pack of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mtn Dew, Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Diet Coke
-a bag of candy (no chocolate, no peanuts)
We need donated
baked goods, too. Baked goods can be dropped off at SLCS starting Thursday, September 12. Baked goods should be finger-foods, as they will be sold individually. Bring your items already bagged in plastic sandwich or Ziploc bags, with 2-3 treats in each bag. Rice Krispie treats, brownies, cookies, and dessert bars are great. No cupcakes or items with icing (or any part that will melt if kept outside in warm weather).
Plan to be there! Fall Festival is Saturday, September 14 (11:00AM-7:00PM) and Sunday, September 15 (11:00AM-5:00PM), at the corner of East Washington and Monroe. Today, I again sent each family an email encouraging you to sign up to work. Also, turn in sold tickets and money quickly-we have plenty more in the office!

Due to teacher training, we will not have school on Wednesday, September 18. Mass that week will be on Tuesday, September 17.
Our first

one box of granola bars or
one box of protein bars to donate to Deacon’s Pantry.

This includes parents, step-parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Families are invited to tour our school, meet the staff, and hear presentations from each class about their Religion Fair project. Students have been hard at work creating these displays, and are hopeful that their family members will come to see what they have made. There will also be a musical performance in the gym, where each class will sing a song.
Scholastic Book Fair starts on Monday, September 30 (same day as Family Day). The fair will be open September 30-October 4. Get great deals on new books and educational items! There will be
only one Book Fair this school year, so stock up on Christmas gifts!
Our September Virtue in Practice is Charity (Loving God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and your neighbor as yourself). Throughout the month, the school staff will be looking for examples of students who display this virtue.
As we move towards fall, remember that
long-sleeved polo shirts ($20) and
grey jackets ($35) are available in the office. Cash, check, or cards are accepted at time of purchase.
Parents and guardians can set up accounts to access Harmony, our school’s online attendance and grade system. Once you have an account, you can track your child’s grades in all classes. I’ll pass out individual access codes to each family starting Thursday.
Under our Code of Student Conduct, all students who go an entire month with no Discipline Slips, Tardy Slips, or Dress Code violations will receive a
free casual day. In August, 38 of our 45 students earned the free Casual Day. I will hand-deliver a yellow “FREE CASUAL DAY” card to the parent/guardian of each child who had no slips. This card will list the date of the child’s upcoming free casual day.
The Indiana Department of Education is set to release individual student Spring 2019 ILEARN results soon. I will distribute these as soon as they arrive in the mail.
All locations of Vogue Cleaners will give a
20% discount on dry cleaning our uniform plaid jumpers and skirts. They will restore the pleats as well. Mention “Saint Lawrence Catholic School” when dropping off your garments to get the discount.
