The liturgical season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 1. Advent is a time when we look forward to the arrival of Jesus at the Nativity.
School resumes on Monday, December 2. Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!
Orange Shop with Scrip Order Forms will be distributed next week. Orders and payments are due on Monday, December 9, at 10:00AM. Gift cards will be distributed by December 12—just in time for Christmas! Remember, our school receives 100% PROFIT on all Pizza King gift certificates sold. Scrip cards make fabulous Christmas gifts!
Our free after-school tutoring begins on December 2. Remember that tutoring is designed to help students improve their reading and math skills; it is not a homework help session.
Boys Basketball will have their Season-End Party on Tuesday, December 3. The party begins after school and ends at 3:45PM. Drinks and food will be provided at no charge.
Friday, December 6, is Saint Nicholas Day! We’ll learn about this important fourth-century church leader, and each child will receive candy and/or a small gift to celebrate.
Make plans to attend
Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas, a recital by Matthew and Kelci Kosin and friends, on Sunday, December 8, 3:00PM, at Saint Lawrence Church. Matthew and Kelci are talented vocalists and the parents of one of our students. The recital will feature our Children’s Choir and several other skilled performers. There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be collected to benefit our school.
We will have Mass at Church on Monday, December 9 (not Wednesday, December 11), so we can celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Our free Advent Program is Wednesday, December 11, from 6:00-7:00PM at the school. All students will have a role in the program; so plan to attend with the whole family!
Our next P.T.O. meeting will be Monday, January 13, 2020, 6:30-7:30PM at the school.
Congratulations to Julie Berger for creating this year’s winning Christmas card design, which will be used on the parish Christmas card this year! The second place card was created by Amairis, with third place going to Laylah. Other top designs were made by Sara, Leilani, Millian, Mariyah, Hannah, Peyton, Frida, Bryson F., Carrie, Abby, Emma B., Attara, and Eli Hart. All top designers will receive a gift from Father Dave!
Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was an enormous success this year. Our students and staff donated 523 items to the Deacon's Pantry (we donated 493 items during last year's Food Drive). The winning classroom this year was Mrs. Cunnington's grade 4-5 class, with 187 items donated, so they earned a popcorn and movie party this afternoon. In an act of generosity, they’ve decided to share their party with all students, K-5!
Congratulations to our November Virtues in Practice recipients! These students represented Saint Lawrence Catholic School proudly by modeling Courtesy (Being thoughtful of others).
De'Ryah Dent-Grade 2: “I often see De'Ryah get excited over the achievements of her classmates. She genuinely thinks of them when she praises them for their work, especially when the achievement has been a long journey to get to. She is positive and encouraging, and she puts others before herself” –Miss Kline
“De'Ryah is always ready to lend a helping hand to her classmates and me. She often checks in with other students to see how they are doing, and she thinks of others before herself. She cares about others and thinks about their needs” –Miss McGarvey
Jonah Harrell-Grade 1: “Jonah shows thoughtfulness for others in a kind and consistent way. He holds the door for us when we go to gym. He waits until every one of his classmates has entered gym before letting the door close. When another student does not have a pair of gym shoes, he is always willing to give them his extra pair. It is clear that he is very courteous” –Miss McGarvey
Abby Willis-Grade 3: “Abby is the first to volunteer to help, whether it’s cleaning up, being a bathroom buddy, or helping with class work. She is always kind and respectful during instruction time, and is always looking for ways to help out” –Mrs. Brown
Our December virtue is Purity (Keeping your soul free of sin).
